on magic

“It’s wonderful,” said bird, “but it isn’t real.”

Bear smiled, “What could be more real than something that makes you feel wonder?”

Mobile: Pride-FULL (42” tall x 32” wide)

You’re in your car at a red light.

You lift your hand off the steering wheel.

And, with a “these are not the droids you’re looking for” flourish of your fingers, the light turns green.

How good does that feel?!

As a kid, I did this from the backseat. And it still feels like magic every time.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if life worked like this?

Swirl your fingers in the air … war, starvation, racism, poverty, misogyny, classism, and the climate crisis – all eliminated.

Twirl your fingers … anxiety, pain, suffering, confusion, loneliness, and heartache – all resolved.

A swish of your fingers … roadblocks and obstacles that get in the way of your well-being, your happiness – all removed.

The right path revealed.
The best decision shown to you.

Back in June, I strained my hamstring in a mountain bike race. And it’s not healing quickly.

Oh, how I wish I could simply swirl my fingers in the air and make it all better.

But that’s not how life works, is it?

We have to work for the things we want. Healing and thriving both require effort and dedication, and time.

Sometimes, we simply have to wait, committed to our priorities and paths.

Other times, we are asked to reset short-term expectations while remaining focused on our long-term goals.

Either way, emotions invite opportunities for perspective.

Frustration, for example, at not being able to race the season out has allowed me to see how much I *did* accomplish this season; how proud I am of myself for trying new things; for how grateful I am to my coach Emma Maaranen for all her amazing help and support; and, how excited I am to look toward the future on my bike.

Now, *that* is magic!

Where you can you find a little (or a lot) of magic in your day today?
