Sprinkles, Belief, and Asking for What You Want
on living fully
“I can ask for what I want?” questioned bear.
“You not only can,” replied mama, “you must.”
Thoughts while reflecting on this mobile
“Can I have the one with sprinkles?”
She asked the question in the tiniest, sweetest voice.
I heard no expectation. I heard no calculation.
I was in the frozen food aisle at Safeway when I saw her.
She was standing in front of the desserts, peering through the fogged glass, and pointing.
“Of course,” said the woman with her. “Chocolate or rainbow?”
I can’t swear by it, but I’m pretty sure I saw the little girl’s feet float up off the ground, her golden pink aura joyfully doubling in size.
“Thank you, mom,” she beamed. “I love you.”
And that’s when I nearly ran into the shopping cart in front of me.
To imagine.
To hope.
To ask.
To clarify.
To grant.
To celebrate.
To thank.
To love.
The client for this mobile imagined a colorful design that would – hopefully – achieve a symbiosis with that gorgeous painting. They asked. I clarified. We created. They received. We celebrated, with gratitude and love.
In all things, it begins with belief. Before the imagining. Before the hoping. Before the asking.
A belief that it’s possible, that it can be different, that it doesn’t have to be that way, that it can be *this* way.
A belief that you are worthy, and brilliant, and deserving.
A belief that not only are sprinkles possible, but that you have the opportunity to decide which kind you want to dust (or not dust) across the ice cream of your life.
What’s one belief about yourself you can put back on the shelf (if it’s not serving you) or celebrate today?
