Joy, Luck, and Leaning in with a Full Heart

On rainbows

“When light enters a water droplet, it reflects off the inside of the droplet, separating into wavelengths,” explained rabbit. “When it exits the droplet, it makes a rainbow.”

“Um,” replied mouse, “can we just say it’s magic?”

Mobile: Joy (6’ x 2’)

Her name was sunshine, yellow like citrine, like hope and fireflies, and that split second of total peace before you fall asleep.

Her name was sky, blue like sapphire, like tears and rain, and your favorite pair of jeans.

Her name was night, dark like iolite, like shadow and guesses, and the feeling of a warm blanket on a cold fall eve.

Her name was forest, green like emeralds, deep like mystery, and filled with trees whose leaves whispered secrets in the breeze.

Her name was candy, tasting of purple and pink like amethyst and tourmaline, like fairy tales, and that moment before your first kiss.

Her name was fire, hot red like garnet and ruby, like sunsets and flames, and ladybugs choosing you for luck.

Her name was gold, magical and charmed and childlike, like that time this past month when I got to partner with @arielgordonjewelry to create a large rainbow of delight for her jewelry studio.

As we worked through the design and palette (100% Ariel’s vision), there was a lightness and joy in the process.

Each message, sparked smiles—so upbeat, so positive. Which, like breath on fire, stoked the goodness higher.

I even remarked to Ariel, “This collaboration reminds me of how lucky I am to get to make art for a living – so thank you!”

In a world that is confusing and overwhelming in so many ways, moments like these are tucked in between the folds if we only take the time to get our hands dirty, vulnerable and willing, as we look for them—leaning in with full heart.

When you reflect upon your now, what do you feel lucky for?

++ what’s your favorite gem stone?
